Japa
In a temple, someone once gave me a Japamala, a string of 108 mediation or prayer beads.
One Japa bead passes through the finger and thumb with each repetition of the Mantra.
I’ve often wondered if this process leads somewhere or is the point of them to ‘settle in’ to where we already are? One Japa isn’t more important that the other, yet each one is crucial.
I feel the same way about making my Art.
With my digital abstraction practice the current piece is nearly always ‘as a result of’ the previous finished piece. I kind of grow them from what went before.
I use no ai.
I prefer to include my human imperfections, particularly those imperfections that arise from the digital medium itself. Pixelation, compression, striations and general failures brought about by me using the equipment, tablets, cameras, laptops incorrectly. In a word, Bricolage.
I use the editing tools; copy, paste, stretch, sharpen, blur, merge to find a vernacular. I don’t call them digital paintings as I don’t use paint. I once called them ‘Notpainting’ which seemed to fit.
So each Japa is an individual unit but it’s simultaneously part of something bigger…
They are available as high quality Giclee prints on Hahnemühle Photo-Rag paper. They are available in 3 sizes and are unframed, simply because you know what would work best in your space.
However if you’d like a framed piece or a bespoke size, the beauty of making digital editions is that that’s more than possible. So get in touch, if you have any questions I’ll be happy to help.
