In The Spirit of Flowers

I’m sure that you can see by now that one artwork (abstract) evolves out of the preceding one. At the moment it’s something that I want to continue. A practice that runs alongside photography, altho probably created for different reasons.

It seems to me like it’s a visual blog that charts my introspective findings i.e. the state I am in.

Someone on the lovely BlueSky posted about how we should savour this brief version of ourselves as it will never return. I won’t be able to remember that but for now it’s an inspiration.

As with a blog I imagine that I’ll be writing thoughts down together with assorted ideas and indications of what I think I’m doing. Unlike a blog, however, I will not be sending out the dreaded newsletter. I’m just going to hope that those hip-to-my-jive, actually you, will see the emergence of a new piece of art as notice that I’ve scribbled something down in one of these needy little boxes. Paradoxically though, I’ll have to do this by remembering that no one will probably read this and my screams are bouncing off all things impervious. Screams of I know not what yet.

David Hockney has recently shown a lot of flowers-in-vase pictures for The Bradford City of Culture Festival. (2025) Apparently he says that they’re ‘all done by hand on ipad’ I took this as validation should any be required but stop calling it fucking ‘painting’. It strikes me as being so unimaginative. It is ‘not-painting’.

I also like the way in which flowers, real or imagined are vectors of beauty.

I’m reading more and more Robert Walser… but have vowed not to use amazon to make any purchases, so Clairvoyant of The Small, a biography by Susan Bernofsky will be tracked down elsewhere.

I’ve got rid of Instagram and facebook as well. Twitter went ages ago.

aAnote on dimensions for this piece. I haven’t got a clue. You’d have to tell me. It’s digital so we can do this, we could even discuss the finish of paper you’d like it printed on and it’ll be hand signed and all that…

I’ve had the most unbelievably bad cough.
